Guyra

Guyra is located in the heart of the New England 35kms north of Armidale on the New England Highway mid-way between Sydney and Brisbane and only two hours drive from the beaches of Coffs Harbour. The town is the Gateway to the Outback with sealed roads taking travellers from Coffs Harbour in the east to the back of Bourke in the west.

At 1320 metres [4330 feet] above sea level, Guyra is the highest town on the tablelands. The climate has four distinct seasons with warm sunny summers and cool evenings, all the colours of autumn and winters with occasional snowfalls and warm log fires.

You will be captivated by the natural beauty and spectacular scenery of the many National Parks and Nature Reserves within the area. The Guy Fawkes River, the New England and Cathedral Rock National Parks offers visitors secluded, rugged wilderness, scenic rivers, waterfalls and native flora and fauna whilst the Mother of Ducks Lagoon and the Little Llangothlin Nature Reserves provide an opportunity to experience rare high-country wetlands which are home to many water birds.

There is something for everybody in the Guyra district. Take a look at the three heritage preserved railway stations at Black Mountain, Guyra and Ben Lomond or browse through the Antique Machinery Museum located at the Guyra Railway Station.

Imagine trying your hand at trout fishing in pristine streams, fossicking for gemstones, playing a round or two of golf, or joining the locals for a game of bowls.

You will be pleasantly surprised by the unique village style shopping on offer in Bradley Street and the true country hospitality. Take time to browse through our boutique shops and then relax and enjoy a coffee or meal at one of our eateries.

Just a short drive to the west of Guyra you will discover Tingha, a wonderful old tin mining town. Take a journey through time at the Wing Hing Long Heritage Emporium. As you step inside, you will experience links to the past, present and the future. You will encounter: the rise and decline of a tin mining town, the buildings, fittings and flavour of a rural General Store from early in the twentieth century, and the importance and diversity of the contribution made by Chinese Australians to rural commerce and life. And trip to Tingha is not complete without visiting Green Valley Farm – a great day out for the family featuring waterslides, mini golf course, animals and Smith’s Museum and Mineral Collection.

Come and stay a few days with us and experience the wide variety of friendly and cosy accommodation that we offer from motels, hotels, a caravan park, B & Bs, farm stays, cottages and campsites.
